Are hospitality ambassadors coming to your school?

A new tourism and hospitality initiative is aiming to bring dynamic industry professionals into the classroom and lecture theatres of schools and colleges and to careers events throughout N.Ireland. People1st click here has developed this particular initiative supported by DEL and the NI Tourist Board through the Skills Action Plan for Hotel and Tourism.  People1st are recruiting those people within its industry who have had a successful career and are passionate about outlining the advantages of the industry to the next generation of employees/recruits across the province.

These 'ambassadors' will set out to champion the industry by raising awareness of hospitality and tourism as a professional career option encouraging young people to think about it as a potential career path.
Tourism is a potential growth area for NI and there is no doubt that young people are atrracted by people within their own career field recounting their individual 'career stories'.

Hospitality and Tourism is a dynamic, creative and fast moving sector which offers many diverse and exciting opportunities.  People1st have just begun to encourage passionate and enthusiastic individuals within the industry to sign up for the ambassadorial role.

Ambassadors will be involved outlining vocational and career routes available to young people, helping 16 to 19 year olds to understand the realities of work and giving careers advisers an insight into opportunities available and how best to embark on a career within the sector.

The Tourism Ambassador programme and a number of the newly recruited ambassadors will be attending the NI schools' conference for careers teachers (NISCA) click here on 27th November at La Mon House hotel, Belfast.  This is a date for your diary.

Before that, and in anticipation of their involvement in your own work related programme (WRL), why not devise some lessons for your Year13 pupils on the theme of

Exploiting underdeveloped tourism potential in my local area

You could always invite in those officers with responsibility for tourism development within the local District Council to judge the results.
